Charges Filed Against Local Man In Alleged Synthetic Marijuana Ca

Charges were filed after officers allegedly located 83 packets of suspected synthetic marijuana concealed in the office area of the this area business.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – From an Oskaloosa Police Department Press Release. “On January 18th 2012 at about 1:00 PM, Officers with the Oskaloosa Police Department accompanied an Auditor of the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division to Cork and Bottle Liquor store located at 309 A Avenue West in Oskaloosa, Iowa to conduct a liquor license inspection. During the course of the inspection, officers located 83 packets of suspected synthetic marijuana concealed in the office area of the business.

There were seven different varieties of the suspected synthetic marijuan, each with its own packaging. Four marijuana pipes were also located for sale in the business.

The suspected marijuana was sent to the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation’s Criminalistics Laboratory for a drug chemistry analysis. The suspected synthetic marijuana was confirmed to be two different types of synthetic marijuana by the Criminalsitics Laboratory.

The owner/manager of Cork and Bottle Liquor Store, Kabal Singh Chauchan is charged with two counts of possession of synthetic marijuana with intent to deliver, an aggravated misdemeanor. Chauchan was arrested on an arrest warrant on June 27th 2012, booked into the Mahaska County Jail and was released after posting $1000 bond.

An aggravated misdemeanor is punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine of at least $625 but no more than $6250. The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division and Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation’s Criminalistics Laboratory assisted in this investigation.”

Osky News attempted to contact Mr. Chauchan at his establishment, but was unable to reach him for a comment on the charges at this time. Employees were also unable to add anything additional to the Oskaloosa Police Department press release.

A criminal charge is merely a criminal charge and not an indication of guilt. All suspects should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
