Central’s Greenfield named Capital One Academic All-District

PELLA—Central College men’s basketball forward Matt Greenfield (senior, Huxley, Ballard HS) has been named to the Capital One Division III Academic All-District 8 men’s basketball team presented by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve at the varsity level and achieve a 3.30 or better cumulative grade point average.

Greenfield, a Ballard High School graduate, is an athletic training major with a 3.45 GPA and is in the midst of his most successful season in a Dutch uniform, averaging 17.9 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Greenfield has recorded eight double-doubles this season, leading Central to second place in the Iowa Conference with a 12-6 overall record, including a 5-2 league mark. He was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week Jan. 28 after being named conference male athlete of the week one day earlier. He has twice been named league men’s basketball player of the week as well.

Greenfield was one of eight players selected to the District 8 team, one of eight districts. He was joined by Brett DeMetrotion of Concordia (Texas), Tyler Gaffaney of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.), Troy Griffith of Texas Lutheran, Jake Klewer and Kyle McAndrews of Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.), Dustin McConnell of Whitworth (Wash.) and Kyle Schleigh of Texas-Dallas.

Greenfield is a three-time letterwinner and was given the team’s Newcomer of the Year Award is 2010-11. He recently eclipsed the 800-point mark with seven regular-season games remaining.
