Central women’s cross country team lands academic honor

Central College

PELLA—For the third straight year, the Central College women’s cross country team has been tabbed a Division III All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Teams that compile a combined 3.10 grade point average (4.0 scale) or better and post a score at an NCAA regional championship meet receive the distinction. The Dutch had a 3.38 mark during the 2010 season and finished 17th at the NCAA Central Region meet, accumulating 408 points. There were 167 teams honored.

Earlier three Central runners received academic all-Iowa Conference honors. Those athletes carried a 3.5 or higher grade point average, were at least a sophomore in academic standing and competed in varsity competition. Sophomore Jenna Broghammer (Iowa City, West HS), senior Sara Crippen (Williamsburg) and sophomore Melony McDermott (Britt, West Hancock HS) earned the distinction.
