Central women’s soccer team wins NSCAA sportsmanship award

Central College

PELLA — The Central College women’s soccer team was awarded the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Gold Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award.

The Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award is given to NSCAA members at four different levels. Gold level honors are the second-tier, behind only Platinum recipients.

The Dutch women were one of 101 men’s and women’s teams across all levels of collegiate soccer, and one of two teams in the Iowa Conference to receive any level of distinction.

Award levels are awarded based on percentages calculated by the total number of cards received by players or coaches divided by the team’s total number of games. In 20 total games this year, Central received just two yellow cards and no red cards.

Central posted a 15-4-1 record in 2016 and advanced to the Iowa Conference tournament semifinals.
