Central men’s tennis squad tumbles at Grinnell

Central College

GRINNELL—Central College swept the first three singles matches but still couldn’t come away with a victory Saturday, suffering a 5-4 loss to Carroll Univ. (Wis.) before faltering against host Grinnell, 8-1.

The Dutch, 3-9 overall and 2-8 in spring competition, got victories from Dan Bowser (senior, Fort Dodge), Seth Harris (junior, Waverly, Neb.) and Bryn Boswell (sophomore, Pella) at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles against Carroll (6-3). Bowser and Harris also teamed for a win at No. 1 doubles, but Central came up empty at the other spots.

Grinnell (4-2), ranked No. 13 in the region, swept Central in doubles. The lone win for the Dutch was at No. 4 singles with freshman Kyle Freischlag (Downers Grove, Ill., South HS).

Central is off until spring break when the Dutch head to Texas. Central takes on Texas-Dallas at noon Monday, March 14. The Comets took a 4-2 record into a Saturday match at Schreiner Univ. (Texas) Saturday. Central then tackles Howard Payne (Texas) at Dallas March 15 with an exhibition against junior college power Tyler March 16. Howard Payne is also 4-2.
