Central earns baseball sweep over Crown
AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Saturday afternoon the Central College baseball team left little doubt in its doubleheader against Crown College (Minn.) with 12-1 and 11-0 victories at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
In game one, senior ace Dylan Diveney (Marshalltown) earned his first win of the season, throwing six innings, allowing an unearned run and striking out nine batters. Sophomore righty Josh Sharp (Conrad, BCLUW HS) closed out the game for Central.
The Dutch (5-3) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after an RBI single from junior first baseman Ryan Bouwman (Bloomington, Ill., Normal HS), scoring junior shortstop Garrett Saunders (Bonaparte, Van Buren HS). Sophomore backstop Trevor Kimm (Urbandale) added another run with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring center fielder Coy Moore (junior, Hamilton, Twin Cedars HS).
Kimm was at it again in the third inning, plating three more runs with a triple. He scored on a two-run home run from senior designated hitter Kyle Crampton (Omaha, Neb., Millard South HS).
In game two, sophomore Nick Long (Marhsalltown, East) earned the win, throwing 5.2 innings, allowing just three hits and no runs. Junior lefty Zach Greder (Sloan, Westwood HS) relieved Long to close out the game.
Central continues invitational play with a game against Anderson University (Ind.) beginning at 9 a.m.
