Central earns academic team honor

Central College

PELLA— For the sixth straight year, the Central College women’s track and field team has received Division III All-Academic Team honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Teams that compile a 3.10 or better cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) are given the distinction. The Dutch carried a 3.26 mark. There were 137 squads honored.

Earlier five Central athletes, including four from the women’s squad, received USTFCCCA all-academic individual honors. Those student-athletes posted a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher and either competed at the indoor or outdoor championships or finished the regular season ranked in the top 35 of an individual event or top 25 of a relay event.

The Dutch finished the year tied for 20th at the NCAA outdoor championships, the program’s eighth time in the top 20. In the Iowa Conference, Central took runner-up honors at the outdoor meet and placed third at the indoor meet.
