Central College

PELLA—After holding the No. 6 spot for two weeks, Central College improved to No. 5 in the USTFCCCA Division III men’s indoor track and field power rankings. The women’s squad jumped to No. 21 after being listed at No. 24 last week.

The men’s team captured its second straight Iowa Conference title in front of a home crowd at the league indoor championships last weekend. Claiming eight event titles, the Dutch posted 212.16 points, just shy of their 2010 league record (213.83) and almost 30 points ahead of runner-up Wartburg College (183).

Junior Ethan Miller (Seymour) claimed three crowns at the meet and was named the league’s athlete of the week for the third time this season. Senior Kurtis Brondyke (Clinton) shared the pentathlon title with Miller and earned special mention athlete of the week honors.

The women’s squad recorded its best indoor finish in school history, taking second with 118.5 points behind team champion Wartburg (251). Senior Jill Ziskovsky (senior, Dallas Center, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) landed special mention athlete of the week recognition after winning the pentathlon title with a meet-record 3,354 points. The Dutch claimed crowns in two additional events and set another league-record in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:56.35.
