Central’s Brondyke, Crouse on academic track squad

PELLA—Central College’s Kurtis Brondyke (Clinton) and Tyler Crouse (senior, Hedrick, Pekin HS) were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III All-Academic track and field team.

The NCAA indoor pentathlon champion, Brondyke compiled a 3.33 (4.0 scale) cumulative grade point average majoring in exercise science/health promotion. The recent graduate claimed runner-up decathlon honors at the outdoor meet. He also posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark for the indoor long jump. Brondyke earned all-America honors six times in his career and won six Iowa Conference titles.

Crouse is receiving the honor for the second consecutive year. He had a 3.47 GPA majoring in biology. Crouse provisionally qualified for the indoor national meet in the weight throw and finished 18th at the outdoor championship in the discus.

To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must attain a 3.3 or better cumulative GPA and meet an NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying mark in an individual or relay event.

Central’s men’s track and field program has received USTFCCCA All-Academic honors 22 times by 18 student-athletes.
