Carla Howard, age 56, of Oskaloosa, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at her home in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Carla was born on May 3, 1964 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd Marion and Dorothy Ellen (Haines) Klyn.
Carla attended the Ottumwa High School and graduated with the Class of 1982.
In 1984 she was united in marriage to Craig Howard in Ottumwa. From this union 2 children were born, Philip and Amber. Carla and Craig later divorced.
During high school Carla started working at Colormaster Inc. in Ottumwa through the VICA Program. She enjoyed her job and stayed working there until they closed down in 2014.
She was a member of the Willard Street Methodist Church in Ottumwa. Family was the center of Carla’s life, especially her grandchildren. She was a very social and joyful person who had a love for life, laughter and spending time with family and friends.
Carla is survived by her children: Philip (& Val) Howard of Waterloo, Iowa and Amber (& Zac) Sprouse of Bloomfield; 5 grandchildren: Emma Howard, Levi Howard, Bryson Sprouse, Grady Sprouse and Taya Sprouse; her siblings: Betty (& Gary) Simmons of Oskaloosa, Ron (& Jody) Downing of Ottumwa, Don (& Julie) Downing of Ottumwa, and Vickie Ruby of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Dorothy Klyn; a sister, Elizabeth Maynard; a brother, Wayne Klyn; and her common law husband, Reno Beaulieu.
As was Carla’s wish, her body will be cremated and a graveside service will be held Monday, September 7, 2020 at 10:00 am in the Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa with Pastor Jon Klaus officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event.
