Caleb P. Hammond
August 14, 2007 – September 10, 2018
Oskaloosa and What Cheer, Iowa | Age 11

Caleb Patrick Hammond, 11, of Oskaloosa and What Cheer, Iowa spread his precious wings and flew to heaven on Monday, September 10, 2018 at 2:00 am to go raise hell with his dear friend Trevor and reunite with multiple family members, his fish Dash, and his cats Screech and Salem.

Caleb was a boy whom always wore a smile, he could put anyone in a great mood with one of his special “Caleb Hugs”. He loved his siblings tremendously and while at the hospital, he would often be sad because he couldn’t be nearer to them. Caleb also had a huge love for animals, especially his beloved Yorkie, Pee Wee.

In his free time, when he wasn’t busy kicking cancers ass, Caleb loved riding his bike, building Legos, attending races with his Uncle Chris, playing with his trains, drawing, fishing and trapping, school, spending time with his family, yelling at his siblings and pranking his nurses and Doctor’s. Caleb was an avid Race fan and Green Bay Packers fan and would tease his oncologist who was a Patriots fan.

To know Caleb was to know how strong, brave, loving, caring and courageous he was. To his parents he was their strength, the sunshine to their days, their hero, but first and foremost, he was their Little Boy. Caleb was selfless and hated seeing his parents sad when he was sick, he was stubborn and held on until they all fell asleep.

Caleb is survived by his parents, Holly (& Aaron) Kempf of What Cheer and John (& Kylee) Hammond Jr. of Oskaloosa; his siblings: Carly Hammond, Kaiden Hammond and Evee Kempf; maternal grandmother, Kathy Meeker; great grandmother, Evelyn Kauffman; paternal grandparents: John (& Tammy) Hammond of Ottumwa and Paula Cooksey of Ottumwa; great-grandparents: Glen and Jackie Cooksey of Beacon and Judy Cooksey of Marysville, California; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends; the staff he loved so much at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, especially nurses Molly and Stephanie; and his beloved Yorkie Pee Wee.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Wesley Meeker; grandmother, Donna Kempf; great grandfather and great grandmother, Charles and Angie Hammond; and great grandfather, Frederick Kauffman.
