Oskaloosa–Raunice Butler (Jr., Nassau, Bahamas, Physical Education) and Riley Ludwig (Jr., Big Bear City, Calif., Biology) collected recognition for exceptional 2017 regular seasons as the all-Heart of America Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Teams were announced Monday.

Butler, who was also named the Heart’s Newcomer of the Year, was one of 13 individuals selected for the league’s top team. Ludwig was named to the 13-person third team; the Heart’s second squad consisted of 13 individuals as well. The awards are the first for both players.

The duo paced the Statesmen to a solid 9-7-1 campaign (5-6-1 Heart), including a win and a tie over teams receiving votes nationally.

Butler, who is the program’s first first-teamer since 2014, currently has a team-high 12 goals with one assist for 25 points (also team best). She has managed six game-winners.

The junior is currently heading the conference in game-winning goals, while also ranking third in goals and sixth in points.

Ludwig has been exceptional on the other end of the pitch for the navy and gold, owning a 7-7-1 record with a 1.28 Goals Against Average and 141 saves. She has shut out four opponents.

WPU’s goalkeeper is #1 in the Heart in saves, tallying 40 more than any other player.

Rosie McShane of Benedictine was chosen as both the conference’s Most Valuable Player and the Offensive Player of the Year (third time she has swept the awards), while Luci Brasil of Central Methodist was named Defensive Player of the Year. Anika Kallash (Central Methodist) earned Freshman of the Year honors, while the Coach of the Year award went to Dan Schmidlin of Central Methodist.
