Burt Hits Qualifying Standard, Breaks Own Record
Terre Haute, Ind.–Phoebe Burt (Sr., Coralville, Iowa, Sociology) crushed her own school record as the William Penn women’s track and field team sent a few individuals to compete in the Indiana State Gibson Invitational Saturday.
Burt claimed a runner-up finish in the discus with a new school record of 150-5, breaking her own program mark of 144-8 (2024). The distance also meets the provisional standard.
Adedoyin Aderibigbe (Fr., Cedar Hill, Texas, Sociology) had solid outings in two separate competitions as well, led by placing 10th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.15 seconds. The freshman also ended up 23rd in the 200-meter dash in 25.79 seconds.
“Phoebe Burt really put it together this weekend, and not in the most ideal conditions,” Head Coach Victoria Vinokur said. “She has had it in her all season, and it finally came to fruition. She knows she has more, so it is nice for her to get this out of the way.”
Next Up: William Penn will split up its teams with athletes heading to three different meets. Many individuals will either head to Indianola next Thursday and Friday for the Simpson Kip Janvrin Open or go to Des Moines for the Grand View Viking Relays on Friday. Select athletes will also be in Des Moines next Friday and Saturday for the Drake Relays.
