Lexus DeJong catches another pancake tossed by 'Chris Cakes'

Oskaloosa, Iowa – 7 a.m. is an early start for some of us city people, especially when you have been up way too late preparing the next days news. But for Chris Cakes, a Pocahontas, Iowa original that is now based out of Louisburg, Kansas, 7 a.m. was the right time for flippin’ some cakes to the hungry crowd that had gathered at the Pavilion on the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds.

The auction is always one of the last things of the fair, and today’s auction started at 9 a.m. The Chamber and Fair Board helped provide the food for the participants, their families, and members of the community.

Lexus DeJong was the lucky recipient of some flying pancakes tossed by Darrin of Chris Cakes. If you ask Darrin how many pancakes he plans to serve, he will tell you, “I expect to serve all of them.”

Darrin is a veteran of these types of events, having done cakes now for 20 plus years. “Still trying to figure it out” Darrin says with a laugh.

With this and the auction, that pretty much wraps up the 2011 version of the Southern Iowa Fair.

Thanks to all those who volunteer and work hard all year long to make the fair special for a new batch of residents every year.
