Bobzilla’s Bicycle Werks offers repair clinics

Bobzilla's Bicycle Werks
Bobzilla’s Bicycle Werks, 1718 Pella Ave., in Oskaloosa, will hold aseries of repair clinics during the month of January. The clinics are designed to teach you skills that will help keep your bike running smoothly, efficiently and safely. They are NOT designed to breathe new life into shot or worn-parts, or to replace regular professional maintenance your bicycle. The classes are taught each Tuesday in January, at 6 p.m. The schedule
is as follows:
• Jan. 4 – Tire and tube repair. Most of us have had a flat tire in the middle of a ride, at some point. This class can keep it from being the end of your ride. There is a right way, and all kinds of wrong ways, to change or repair a tube, believe it or not. Learn the right way. Class size is limited to 4 people. Cost of the class is $5 (to cover the tubes used in class).
• Jan. 11 – Drivetrain care & maintenance. The drivetrain is one of the most neglected systems on your bike. Take care of it and it will last longer and perform better. Don’t take care of it, and it will cost you money down the road. We’ll show you how to take care of it, and how to adjust the shifting cables on your bike to improve your shifting. Please bring your own bike to class. There is no cost. Class size is limited to 3.
• Jan. 18 – Brake setting & adjustment. Brakes are another critical system on your bike – if they don’t work, you don’t stop, and that’s dangerous. Learn how to take care of them so they work as well as they can. Because of time constraints and the variety of procedures, this class will focus on the two main style of rim brakes found on new bikes today – linear pull and side-pull/dual pivot. Class size is limited to 3 people. No cost.
• Jan. 25 – Wheel maintenance. Okay, so you broke a spoke. Now what? Well, you replace it. We’ll show you how. We’ll show you two ways: How to replace it in the field with a temp spoke, and how to replace it with a proper spoke after the ride. This class will briefly touch on spoke tension, but not in-depth. Class size is limited to 3
people. No cost.
People interested in attending any of these should e-mail ask@bobzillabikes.com. We’ll need your name, the class your interested in and contact information. In the event interest exceeds capacity in any class, Bobzilla’s will schedule an overflow session on a different day. Students will get the opportunity to buy any tools or related parts at a 10% discount on the day of the class only (discount does not applyto bikes or accessories).
