Blanche Wyngarden, 89, of Pella and formerly of Oskaloosa died Sunday, May 11, 2014, at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella.
Blanche was born on Friday, October 10, 1924, north of Leighton, Iowa, the middle child of John and Dena Van Roekel De Prenger. She made her confession of faith at the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton in 1939. She attended Centennial Country School and went on to graduate from Pella High School with the class of 1942.
On Friday evening March 12, 1948 she was united in marriage to Herman Wyngarden at the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton. To this union two children were born Denise and Doyle.
Blanche always did secretarial work. Offices she worked in include: Mahaska County Farm Bureau, Oregon State Farm Bureau, De Kock Furniture, F.H. Blomgren, C.P.A., and for Wyngarden Oil for many years. Blanche’s “second daughter” is Marti Powell Reed. Blanche provided daycare for her for over ten years.
She was a member of the Oskaloosa Central Reformed Church where she was church organist for over 45 years, she also helped with Daily Vacation Bible School, and sang and played for many weddings and funerals. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Hawkeye Cree Camper Club, Dutchmasters Auto Club, and the Mahaska County Farm Bureau. Blanche was also a member of CRC Women’s Ministries where she served as treasurer for over 17 years. Blanche was an active volunteer for the: V.A. clothing room, Ecumenical Cupboard, and at many nursing homes.
Blanche and Herman enjoyed 21 winters in Texas. She loved to play cards and games. Blanche delighted in her family, her church family, Texas family, serving their gas customers and helping with church activities.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of over 66 years, Herman Wyngarden of Pella; two children: Denise (Glenn) Van Wyk of Pella and Doyle (Karla Nunnikhoven) Wyngarden of Puyallup, Washington; five grandchildren: Shalene (Kyle) Zylstra, Shane (Abby) Van Wyk, Cameron Van Wyk, Samantha (Jason) Sechrist, and Meagan Wyngarden; eight great grandchildren: Lydia, Aidan and Norah Zylstra, Addison and Jenna Van Wyk, Tyeson Van Wyk, and Olivia and Brodie Sechrist; and a step sister in law, Helen Grandia.
Of her original family Blanche leaves, a sister in law, Esther De Prenger; two sisters in law: Wanda (Warren De Prenger, deceased) and her husband Tom Stangl and Nellie Wyngarden; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her parents in law, John and Nettie Wyngarden; her step father in law, Paul Grandia; two brothers, Mark and Warren De Prenger; a brother in law, Elmer Wyngarden; a sister in law and her husband: Wilma and Dale Roorda; a niece, Maxine Newport; and a step brother in law, Howard Grandia.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, with Pastor Gloria Nollen officiating. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 Thursday morning in the west wing of the church.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Wednesday after 11 a.m., and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 4-6 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Central Reformed Church or Mahaska Hospice.
