Betty Stoddard

Oskaloosa. Betty M. Stoddard, 85, of Oskaloosa, died on Saturday, December 18, 2010, at the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born Thursday, January 1, 1925, in Raymond, Minnesota, the daughter of Clifford and Ruby Nelson Bergstresser. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1942. Early on she worked as the garage keeper at Thayer Chevrolet in Oskaloosa. Later she worked as a legal secretary in several law offices until her retirement. In 1945 she was united in marriage to George McFadden and they later divorced. In 1975 she married Roy Stoddard, Jr. in Colorado, and he died in 1996. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, bowling, golfing and mushroom hunting. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served as the treasurer for many years.

Her family includes her 2 sons: Mike McFadden of Oskaloosa and Patrick (& Patricia) McFadden of Mendin, Iowa; a grandson: Sean McFadden; and a cousin: Dorothy Thomas of Pierz, Minnesota.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; 1 granddaughter: Merrillee McFadden; a brother: Marvin Bergstresser; a step sister: Barbara Russell and her step mother: Iva Bergstresser.

A memorial service for Betty Stoddard will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at 3 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Elizabeth Colton officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Forest Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. As was Betty’s wish her body has been cremated and no visitation is planned. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Serenity House or the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.
