Betty Jane Jackson, 85, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, August 3, 2017, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born Wednesday, February 3, 1932, in Pleasanton, Iowa, the daughter of Hershel and Flora Roland Houk.

Betty attended school in the Malloy-Mt. Ayr area.

Following school, Betty worked in several cafés in the Oskaloosa and Des Moines area. Betty was a homemaker most of her life.

On July 22, 1995, Betty was united in marriage to James Jackson in Oskaloosa.

Betty enjoyed cooking, dancing, fishing, socializing, watching and listening to country and polka music, watching wrestling on T.V., watching the birds and squirrels, word searches and most of all spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a former member of the Oskaloosa Eagles, V.F.W. and Moose Lodge.

Betty is survived by her husband, James Jackson of Oskaloosa; six sons: Edward Stout, Randy (& Beckie) Sams, Kim (& Deanna) Sams, Trampas (& Peggy) Sams and Daniel (& Brandy Pitts) Jackson, all of Oskaloosa and T.J. (& Jessica) Jackson of San Diego, California; three daughters: Ronda (& Raymond) Brothers, Sandra (& Kelly) Graham and Marcy Bautista, all of Oskaloosa; 24 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; a sister, Pearl Bruner of Leon, Iowa; four brothers-in-law: Walt (& Helen) Jackson of Truax, Steve (& Susan) Jackson of West Branch, Ronnie Stroud of Allerton and Larry (& Sharon) Bishop of Knoxville, Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Sandy Jackson of Corydon; several cousins; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Barbara Sams; two brothers: Freeman and Raymond Houk; two sisters: Merle Draper and Joy Houk; three sisters-in-law: Min Houk, Mary Stroud and Ellen Benjamin; and three brothers-in-law: Keith Draper, Bill Bruner and Lyle Bishop.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at 1:30 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Razzy Ragusi officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery near Leighton.
Visitation will begin Tuesday, August 8, 2017, after 1 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Tuesday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the MHP Hospice Serenity House or to her family.
