Iowa wins 41-20 in Green Bay

DES MOINES – The Iowa Barnstormers (1-0) beat the Green Bay Blizzard (0-1) 41-20 Sunday Afternoon at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

At the start of the first quarter the Blizzard wasted no time getting on the board with a field goal on their opening drive taking the early 3-0 lead. The Barnstormers offense was quick to answer back with a touchdown run by running back Donavan Williams to take a 7-3 lead. Green Bay was able to score on a 20-yard run in the following drive taking a 10-7 lead to end the first quarter.

The second quarter started out with a strong display of the Barnstormers strength on offense with a touchdown catch by wide receiver Jonathan Duarte to give Iowa a four-point lead. The Blizzard retaliated with a 43-yard field goal to make the score 14-13. Kicker Cody Barber was able to extend the Barnstormers with not one but two field goals in the final minutes. The Barnstormers led at halftime 20-13.

At the start of the fourth quarter, the Barnstormers came out strong. Drew Powell stormed Iowa down the field and was able to connect with receiver Ryan Balentine for a beautiful one-handed touchdown pass extending their lead to 14 points. Green Bay’s offense came out fast and was able to come up with their own touchdown pass making the score 27-20 after the PAT. The Barnstormers came back shortly after with Brady Roland which gave Iowa a 34-20 lead. At the end of the half Balentine came up with his second touchdown grab of the quarter making the score 41-20.

The Barnstormers will return to Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday, March 10, 2018 for their home opener against the Arizona Rattlers.
