Barbara Jean Presley, 81, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, June 15, 2020, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born September 30, 1938, in Dumont, Iowa, the daughter of Ben and Pearl Bennett Siems.
Barbara graduated from Dumont High School with the Class of 1956.
On July 16, 1988, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Presley, in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Early on Barbara did tax preparation and bookkeeping for Bob Prasch in Ottumwa and later for H & R Block. Above all else, she was a homemaker while she took care of her children and family.
Barbara and Robert were members of the Hillside Bible Church in Oskaloosa. Barbara became a member of the After Five Club shortly after moving to Oskaloosa and was a former member of the PTA in Ottumwa. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, games and trivia, especially on KLEE radio. Barbara enjoyed traveling, camping, hiking and participating in treasure hunts with Robert. Later in life she found a love of fishing. She was a talented seamstress, a great cook and was very faithful in writing letters to her family and friends. She had a special love for animals, especially cats, and donated to the ASPCA and World Wildlife Fund. Barbara always looked forward to family gatherings with her sisters and their families.
Her family includes her husband of over 31 years, Robert Presley of Oskaloosa; four children: Kristi (& Mark) Hill of Clive, Terry (& Concepcion) Moore-Guzman of Des Moines, Richard Moore Jr. of Newton, Iowa, and Karen (& Robert) Baird of Harvard, Illinois; three grandchildren: Travis Moore, Hannah Baird and Audrey Baird; a step-son, John Edward Presley; a cousin, Susan Dreesman; and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; and two sisters and their husbands, Dorothy (& Roland) Miller and Beverly (& Tom) Wedeking.
As was Barbara’s wish, her body has been cremated and no services are planned. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the ASPCA or the Alzheimer Foundation of America.
