Area Accident Injures Three

Oskaloosa, Iowa – An accident reported Wednesday evening at 6:56 pm sent three people to area hospitals.

The crash happened towards the eastern edge of Oskaloosa, at the intersection of Highways 92 and 23.

A 2009 Chrysler Sebring driven by 87 year-old Robert E Allender, of Oskaloosa, was traveling westbound in the left lane on Highway 92, approaching the intersection of Highway 23. A 1992 Kenworth driven by 19 year-old Nicholas R Greene, of Tracy, was traveling eastbound in the right lane of Highway 92.

According to the minimal crash report by the Iowa State Patrol, The Chrysler driven by Allender attempted to make a left hand turn onto Highway 23. The operator of the Kenworth attempted to brake to avoid the turning car, but the truck made contact with the front passenger side of the car.

Allender was transported to University of Iowa Hospital by Mercy One helicopter. Greene and a passenger in the truck, Zachary L. Greene, also of Tracey, Iowa, were transported by private vehicle to Pella Regional Hospital.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa Highway Patrol. The Oskaloosa Police Department, Oskaloosa Fire Department, Mahaska County Sheriffs Department, Mahaska Health Partnership Emergency Services and the Iowa Department of Transportation all assisted at the scene.
