Always There With A Smile And Encouragement
Oskaloosa, Iowa – She can be found walking the halls at OHS in the mornings, greeting her schoolmates with a smile and friendly greetings nearly every morning.
This year, the senior class voted to include Leah Anderson as part of the 2013 Homecoming Court. Leah’s Lifeskills teachers, Betty Ann Latchaw and Sarah DeRonde, explained that Leah is outgoing and is “greeting everyone in the hallway between each class”.
Being the center of attention for the entire week doesn’t scare Leah. “Leah really is a special gal,” says Betty Ann Latchaw.
They went on to compliment Leah on her positive outlook on life, and how she is cheerful and encouraging.
Leah herself is looking forward to many activities of the week. “Happy” is how Leah best describes being part of the homecoming court.
Monday night will have Leah taking part in powderpuff football as a member of the maroon team. Thursday will be the homecoming parade, and coronation program afterwards. With her new dress and shoes, she likens the experience to that of Cinderella. If Leah had her way, she would trade that convertible in for a real horse drawn carriage.
Leah’s parents are both proud of their daughter, and are looking forward to sharing this experience with her, as they escort their daughter to the field at Friday’s football game.
In her time away from school, Leah is involved with the Evangelical Church, the Spirit Cafe and Special Olympics.
Her teachers complimented Leah on how she continues to strive forward with a positive attitude and a smile, even with her difficulties in life, saying she doesn’t give up in her quest to accomplish more.
You can catch Leah and the rest of the 2013 Homecoming Court on Thursday at 6:30 pm for the homecoming parade through downtown Oskaloosa, at the coronation following the parade at the Old Community Stadium, and then finally at the football game on Friday night as the Indians take on Norwalk.
