Alta Mae Maloy, 85, of rural Eddyville died Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born Wednesday, April 19, 1933, at her parents’ home near Eddyville, the daughter of Tunis and Alice Westercamp Den Hartog.

Alta Mae attended Brown Country School near Eddyville and went on to complete high school in Eddyville, graduating with the class of 1950.

Following high school, she was united in marriage to Don Maloy on September 14, 1950 in Eddyville. To this union four children were born, Terry, Carolyn, Connie, and Randall.

Following marriage, Alta Mae stayed busy raising her family and tending to her home. She also spent time helping Don on the farm.

Alta Mae always looked forward to attending her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s activities. She was a devoted Iowa Hawkeye fan, listening to KIIC radio, and thoroughly enjoyed listening to Kitchen Klatter on the radio. She was known for her famous homemade noodles. She loved to garden and always had Zinnias and Marigolds.

She was always keeping up on current events, reading the newspaper from cover to cover, and enjoyed spending her time reading books, especially the Bible.

For many years Alta Mae kept a journal of important family events, every year she would hand write those important events in calendars for her children. Alta Mae was never one to complain and always remained positive. She was a member of the Eddyville United Methodist Church and 2-4 Club.

Her family includes her husband of over 68 years, Don Maloy of Eddyville; her four children, Terry (& Debbie) Maloy of Albia, Connie Davis of Knoxville, Carolyn (& Craig) Rozenboom of Bussey and Randal (& Patti) Maloy of Stumptown, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard Den Hartog of Pasadena, California; and a close friend Don “Red” Darland of Chillicothe, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two son in-laws, Dan Steele and Paul Davis.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 19, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in the Eddyville United Methodist Church with Pastor Brian Steele officiating.
Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Eddyville. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will begin Sunday morning after 11 a.m. and the family will be here at the funeral chapel Sunday afternoon from 3-5 to greet relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to MHP Serenity House or Eddyville United Methodist Church.
