Akway, Gonzalez Sweep Weekly XC Awards

Oskaloosa–Ochaung Akway (Sr., St. Paul, Minn., Physical Education) and Guadalupe Gonzalez (So., Houston, Texas, Exercise Science) ran great races last week and were rewarded for their efforts by being named Heart of America Athletic Conference Runners of the Week Monday.

Gonzalez collected her first weekly award by finishing 16th out of 98 competitors in a time of 19:52.58 at the DuPage CC Invitational. Her time is the fifth-fastest 5K in program history and the fastest since 2012.

Now a two-time honoree, Akway also found his way into the top 20, placing 17th out of 122 runners with an 8K time of 26:33.23. His time was only 14 seconds from being in the top-10 all-time at WPU.

The awards are the first for William Penn this year.
