Visitation: Will begin at 1 p.m., Tuesday afternoon, May 31, 2011 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from 6 – 8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday morning, June 01, 2011 at the First Christian Reformed Church with Reverend Dale Visser officiating. A family prayer service will be held in the church basement at 10:15 preceding the funeral service.
Interment: Liberty Cemetery near Bussey, Iowa

Agnes was called home to Heaven on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at 1:05 pm at the Monroe Care Center in Albia at the age of 91 years, 7 months and 26 days.

John and Grace Modder Spoolstra, Agnes was born October 3, 1919 in Corinth, Michigan. Agnes attended school in Martin, Michigan. She taught Sunday school as a teenager and made her profession of faith in 1935 at the age of 16 in the Byron Center Christian Reformed Church. Agnes was united in marriage with Clarence Hoven on August 20, 1941 at her parent’s home near Byron Center, Michigan. Agnes assisted her husband in many churches through out their ministry. She taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, was a Ladies Bible Leader, and also helping in missionary work. Rev. Clarence Hoven and Agnes served the ministry from 1953 to 2000 in Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky and Canada. From 1973 to 1979, Clarence and Agnes served in Faith Community Church in Eddyville. In 1983 they moved to an acreage near Eddyville. In 2007, they moved from the acreage to Oskaloosa. Clarence now resides in Albia. Agnes and Clarence not only raised their seven children, they cared for nine foster children. Agnes is a member of the First Christian Reformed Church and has enjoyed caring for her family, baking, and her involvement in her husband’s ministry.

Agnes’s family includes her husband of 69 years, four daughters and their husbands: Darlene and Terry Miller of Livingston, TX; Clara and Ralph Klein of Pella, IA; Angie and Steven Rheuport of Mitchellville, IA; and Joyetta “Joy” Block of Ankeny, IA; two sons and their wives: James and Lora Hoven of Albia, IA; and Clare and Marla Hoven of Albia, IA; 28 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving Agnes is one sister, Margie Gras of Zeeland, MI and a sister-in-law, Mae Spoolstra of Byron Center, MI.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, a son, George Owen Hoven who died October 19, 2001; four brothers: Peter, John, Sierd and Bernard Spoolstra; a sister, Grace Piper; one son-in-law, Mike Walker; and two brothers-in-law, Eli Kalman and Jake Gras.

Memorials may be made to the American Missionary Fellowship and Hospice of Monroe County.
