Schwab, Boschma pick up weekly conference awards

PELLA — Central College men’s golfer Jeremy Schwab (senior, Beach Park, Ill., Zion-Benton HS) and men’s tennis player David Boschma (sophomore, Olathe, Kan., Northwest HS) received the performer of the week honors in their respective sports from the American Rivers Conference on Monday.

Schwab was Central’s top finisher at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational over the weekend, finishing 17th in the 120-golfer field. His two day score of 73-75—148 included a tie for his career-best in the opening round. Central finished seventh as a team. Central has won the award in consecutive weeks following Drew Mendoza’s (senior, Manitou Springs, Colo.) award last week.

The Dutch are scheduled to be the host team in a dual against Mount Mercy University on Friday at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City.

Boschma was unbeaten on the weekend with two wins from his No. 1 singles slot. He also went 2-0 at #1 doubles with Danny Anderson (junior, Boone). Central beat the University of Dubuque 8-1 and Loras College 9-0. It was the junior’s first weekly award from the conference and the first for the Dutch men’s tennis team this season.

Central hosts Wartburg College in a crucial conference dual on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
