WPU Bowling Teams in Top 20 Entering Last Part of Year

Oskaloosa–Well past halfway through the season, the William Penn bowling teams are in position to make another deep run in the postseason.

The Statesmen men are currently 13th in collegebowling.com’s power ranking with 3,801 points, while the women are 20th nationally with 2,784 points. A total of 184 men’s teams are included in the ranking, while there are 148 women’s teams in the list.

Within the NAIA, WPU is sixth on the men’s side and the women are 14th. Robert Morris (Ill.) heads the men’s rating with 4,761 points, while Pikeville (Ky.) is on the top for the women with 4,862 points.

Six Statesmen are averaging over 200 pins per game, led by Curtis Majka (Sr., Elgin, Ill., Mechanical Engineering) and his 210.7 mark. Majka ranks 17th nationally as an individual.

Kayla Gifford (Jr., Camanche, Iowa, Biology) leads a trio of Statesmen women who are over the 180 average; the junior currently has a 186.1 mark.

William Penn has four regular-season tournaments left before sectionals, including traveling to Addison, Ill. Saturday and Sunday to compete in the Kegel/ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic.
