PELLA — The United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-North/Central Region teams were released on Monday morning and the Central College men’s and women’s soccer teams each had a player recognized.

Forward Miguel Pina (senior, Chicago, Ill., Taft HS) was named to the men’s second team, and Erin Manion (junior, forward, Delafield, Wis., Kettle Moraine HS) was placed on the women’s third team. Pina is a repeat selection from 2017 while it’s the first honor for Manion. Both programs have now been recognized for three consecutive seasons.

Both Pina and Manion were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region teams earlier this season.

Pina has a 3.41 GPA as a double major in exercise science and Spanish. Scoring seven of the team’s 23 goals, Pina was the top striker for the Dutch men. He also added a team-high four assists. He had two game-winning goals in 2018, including a penalty kick to beat Wartburg 1-0 on September 29. Pina has twice been named to the all-American Rivers Conference first team (2018, 2017) and the second team once (2016).

Manion is an exercise science major with a 3.86 GPA. A 12-goal season by Manion was supplemented with seven assists, totaling a team-high 31 points. She fired off 102 shots, landing 41 on frame. She was previously announced as a first team all-conference selection for the third year in a row.

Manion was also a CoSIDA Academic All-District pick in 2018.

On the men’s side, Central finished 9-9 (5-3 conference) after advancing to the conference tournament semifinals. The Dutch women went 10-7-1 (4-4 conference), losing in the quarterfinals of the league tournament.
