Wyngarden Retires After 46 Years Of Service

Vicky Wyngarden retired after 46 years of service to the Oskaloosa School District.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – After 46 years with the Oskaloosa School System, Vicky Wyngarden retired from the work that has kept her busy for nearly a half a century.

“I started May 1st, 1972”, Wyngarden remembers. When she first started, she was the secretary to the board secretary. After that, she took on a position in accounts payable where she took care of orders and invoices. “And when the payroll person left, then I started doing payroll. So I’ve been doing payroll ever since.”

Wyngarden doesn’t have any special plans at this point for her retirement. “Each day is a different story. We’ve come up with some health issues, and we’ve got to take care of those in my family. So we’ll get that over with, then we’ll worry about what we’re going to do next.”

“We’ve got livestock to take care of. I’ve got grass to mow, so, there’s never a dull moment,” added Wyngarden.

“I’ve just worked with some really great people,” Wyngarden said remembering her time with the district. “Clear through the system. Teachers and everybody. They’re here for the kids, and that’s what is important.”

Even though she didn’t work with kids every day, she’s enjoyed watching them grow over the years. Many days they walked into George Daily to practice their musical talents, “that was great.”

She also enjoyed watching the students compete in sporting activities. “That’s what it’s all about. School’s for kids.”
