Women Place in Top Half at GVU Event

Altoona–The young women’s cross country team took a nice step forward Friday by finishing in the top half at the Grand View Invitational.
The women ended up third out seven programs in the 5K race with 94 points, while the men were fifth out of five teams with 142 points in the 8K competition. Morningside claimed the women’s crown with 31 points; North Iowa Area CC topped the men’s standings with 34 points.
Marissa Kuik of Waldorf headlined the 54-person women’s field at 19:49.5, while Abdiaziz Wako of North Iowa Area CC was first out of 52 men at 27:41.
Andrea Jaquez (Fr., San Antonio, Texas, Exercise Science) tallied a top-10 effort to guide the women, hitting the finish line in eighth at 21:15.5. Talaysia Douver (Fr., Lakewood, Calif.) narrowly missed joining Jaquez as she was 11th at 21:34.6.
Madison Udy (Fr., American Falls, Idaho, Exercise Science) was then next, placing 29th at 23:47.8, while Michelle Reyes (So., Brownsville, Texas, Biology) was 31st (24:22.1) and Zena Cuhuo (Fr., Carrollton, Texas, Exercise Science) was 33rd (24:26.3) to wrap up the varsity scoring.
Bree’Anna Lee (Jr., Broken Arrow, Okla., Biology) also competed, running the race in 25:27 to finish 40th.
Kenneth Bolton III (Fr., South Riding, Va.) guided the men’s efforts, placing 32nd at 32:22.3, one of four straight WPU runners.
Jack Miller (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa) was next at 32:40.8, while Cameron Shade (So., Riverdale, Ga., Sociology) was 34th (33:12.4) and Terry Jackson (Jr., Houston, Alaska, Biology) was 35th (33:12.4).
David Williams (So., Victor, Iowa, Secondary Education) concluded the team scoring, finishing 38th in a time of 34:29.6.
Also competing was Julian Davis (So., Palmer, Alaska, Mechanical Engineering) (42nd, 36:01.7), Jacob Fisher (Fr., Albia, Iowa) (43rd, 36:49.6), Gabriel Webster (Fr., Worland, Wyo.) (46th, 37:29.1), and Tylor Durbin (Fr., Fremont, Iowa, Business Management) (51st, 40:29.3).
Next Up: William Penn travels to Rock Island, Ill., next Friday to compete in the Augustana Brissman/Lundeen Invitational.
