Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors met at 3:00 pm on Monday, June 18, 2018.

The board heard from Deann DeGroot of MCARD [Mahaska County Agricultural and Rural Development], who spoke about Education in the Workplace. The program had visited employers outside of Mahaska County during the past week, and will spend the week of June 25th visiting and learning from local employers.

The Educators in the Workplaces brings educators from Southeast Iowa and employers together to help educators understand the needs of the workforce and employers.

The fair BBQ is set for July 19th, which is the same night as John Michael Montgomery and KIIC’s Wing Ding Fling Thing, making for lots of fun options.

Dave Sedivec, Director of Mahaska County Conservation, updated the supervisors about the ongoing construction of the new environmental learning center.

Sedivec said that there had been some complications during construction that have extended construction time.

Sedivec said that camping at Eveland Access looks to be a record year for revenue, even with a delayed start due to weather conditions at the beginning of the season.

Curt Grandia with Mahaska County Veterans Affairs said that, with the decision to go from a three-member board to a five-member board, Julie Wells has been selected as the fourth board member.

Grandia said that one additional vacancy remains, which he believes will be filled within a month or two.

The board approved a computer maintenance agreement for the fiscal years 2018-19 with Solutions Inc. Mahaska County Auditor Sue Brown said the cost for the agreement hasn’t changed since last year’s agreement.

The board approved the fiscal year 2017 Business Property Tax Credit credit applications for 691 that were recommended by the Mahaska County Assessor.

The board discussed a possible stroke detection screening for Mahaska County employees. The Supervisors said they would look for a recommendation from the health committee on the proposed screening.

The supervisors approved and authorized signature on an agreement with Carosh Compliance Solutions for HIPPA consulting service with the basic coverage provided.

The board approved secondary road non-union salaries for the fiscal year 2018-19.

The board approved a request for a variance from road setback for 902 Oskaloosa Street for storage units.
