George Arthur Seery, 84, of southern California, died Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at 7:30 am at the West Ridge Specialty Care Center in Knoxville, Iowa. He was born July 25, 1933, in Floral Park, New York, the son of John Edward and Anna Lowe Seery.
George served in the United States Army for two years from 1954 to 1956.
A few years after his discharge from the Army, he moved to California. In 1970, he established El Dorado Ornamental Iron in Victorville, California, fabricating iron gates for over 30 years. In 2017, George moved to Iowa to be closer to his daughter and his grandchildren.
During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, and being outdoors. He had a passion for watching football and was a big fan of the Buffalo Bills.
His family includes his four children: George Arthur Seery, Jr. of Washington, Ruthella (& Tom) Burden of Georgia, Barbara (& Gabe) Pollard of Georgia, and Bobbie Jean (& Josh) Tremmel of New Sharon; seven grandchildren: John Seery, Larry Medlock, Craig Dollar, Alex Seery, Katie Marie, Alisabeth Kristine, and Stone Tremmel; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers: Robert Seery of Arizona and John Seery of New York; a sister, Joannie Seery of New York; and many nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Sean Wray Seery; two brothers, Joe Seery and Richard Seery; and a sister, Elizabeth.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, 2018 at 6 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend John Spiegel officiating.
Military Honors will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W.
Following the funeral in Oskaloosa, George will be buried at Desert View Cemetery in Victorville, California next to his son. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa.
