Oskaloosa, Iowa – There was a steady line in front of Hy-Vee on Saturday afternoon for a customer appreciation cookout that had a charitable function.

Ben Seibert, Assistant Manager at the Oskaloosa Hy-Vee store said that the cookout was a way to show appreciation to their customers and to help raise funds for the Oskaloosa Summer Lunch Program.

“Everything we raise today from the meal that we are doing, we’re donating 100 percent of it to the summer lunch program,” said Seibert.

This was the first time the Oskaloosa Hy-Vee had held such a fundraiser for the program.

The summer lunch program helps to make sure that children in the community have a nutritious meal while school is not in session. The program is run by the United Way of Mahaska County.

Sara Lee Bread donated the buns for the hotdogs, Frito Lay donated the chips, and Mahaska donated the pop for the meals.
