Wheeler Named To All-American Team

GRINNELL, Iowa – Darice Wheeler ’21, who has earned numerous honors in her record-breaking first season as a Grinnell College softball player, earned the ultimate prize today by being named the program’s first-ever All-American.

Wheeler, a pitcher/second baseman, was tabbed second-team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) at a utlity spot.

She was recently named first-team All-Region, the Midwest Conference Player and Newcomer of the Year and All-MWC first team after leading the Pioneers to their first league tourney berth since 2006.

She is the national leader in RBIs and slugging percentage at 63 and 1.093, respectively. She set Grinnell school records in both categories as well as batting average (.500), on-base percentage (.595), runs (49), hits (59), doubles (14), home runs (18), total bases (129) and bases on balls (27). Additionally, she is Grinnell’s career leader in home runs with 18. As a pitcher, she was 11-5 with 80 strikeouts in 106 innings.
