Mae Mart
Oskaloosa. Mae Lucille Mart, 91, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, December 19, 2010, at Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab in Oskaloosa. She was born August 23, 1919, at Dana, Illinois, the daughter of William and Katie Miller Tullis. She graduated from high school in Dana Illinois with the class of 1937. She furthered her education at the Kankakee Business School at Kankakee, Illinois. Following school she worked as a bookkeeper at Anthony’s Manufacturing in Illinois. On November 5, 1949, she was united in marriage to Arthur F. Mart at Princeton, Illinois. She later did the bookwork for her husband’s coal company. In 1958, they moved to Eddyville and Mae stayed home to care for her family, and help on the farm. She also did all of the bookkeeping for the farm. On April 23, 1974, Arthur died, being widowed at 55, Mae decided it was time to learn to drive a car and get her drivers license. She had attended the Hayden Chapel west of Eddyville and more recently was attending Community of Christ Church in Oskaloosa. She enjoyed attending Ladies Bible Hour in Eddyville, gardening, canning, and reading; especially the newspaper. She also enjoyed T.V. games shows, Lawrence Welk, baking; especially Christmas goodies for her family, and early on in life she enjoyed camping and traveling with Arthur. She delighted in spending time with her family.
Her family includes her two daughters: Joyce Moses of University Park, and June (& John) Spencer of Oskaloosa; three grandchildren: Nancy Billy, Joe (& Mattie) Moses, and Scott Moses; three great grandchildren; a great great grandson; two stepsons: Roscoe Mart of Eddyville, and Rollin Mart of Eddyville; two step daughters: Betty Fosenburg of Albia, and Bonnie Waits of Knoxville; several step grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and 3 sisters-in-law: Miriam Current of Oskaloosa, Ida Current of Ottumwa and Nina Current of New Sharon.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son in law: Ernie Moses; a step son: Thayne Mart; two step sons in law: Hank Fosenburg, and Glenn Waits; three step daughters in law: Gerry Mart, Irene Mart, and Beverly Mart.
Funeral services for Mae Mart will be held Thursday, December 23, 2010, at 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Lois Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Coal Creek Cemetery southwest of Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin Wednesday after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel from 5-7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Mae Mart Memorial Fund.
