Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Police Department has filed an attempted murder charge against Deon Freeman in connection with a shots fired call in late December of 2017.

The original Oskaloosa Police Department Press Release stated:

“On December 19th, 2017 at approximately 10:25 p.m., Officers of the Oskaloosa Police Department were dispatched to a call for service involving shots being fired. It was reported that 26-year-old male Deon Freeman was at the intersection of Pella Avenue and Green Street in Oskaloosa, IA where an 18-year-old male identified as Cellous Glover who was inside another vehicle pointed a firearm at Freeman. Freeman has a valid permit to carry weapons and was armed with a pistol. Freeman reported he fired upon Glover in self-defense striking the vehicle in which Glover was riding.”

“No injuries were reported as a result of this shooting. All involved parties except Glover were located and questioned at the time.”

Glover was arrested later that evening in Pleasant Hill Iowa by police and subsequently arrested on unrelated charges.

Over the weekend, Deon Freeman was taken into custody and charged with Attempted Murder in connection with the above incident. In court documents filed by the Oskaloosa Police Department over the weekend, the department outlines the reason for the charge.

Court documents filed state that, “On December 19, 2017, at approximately 10:25 p.m. the Mahaska 911 Center received a call from the defendant advising them that he had opened fire on a White Chevrolet Impala occupied by a person known to him as “Lil B.” The defendant advised that the rounds from his handgun struck the vehicle causing damage to the back window of the vehicle.”

The report goes on to say, “The defendant advised that he observed a male known to him as Cellous Glover, aka Lil B in this vehicle point a gun at him. The defendant then advised that this vehicle ran into the back of his vehicle. The white Impala then left the scene, and this is when he fired six shots from his handgun into the back of the vehicle in hopes of hitting Cellous Glover, aka Lil B. The defendant also advised that he never received return gunfire from the White Impala as it sped away. Upon investigating into the incident, it was determined that Cellous Glover, aka Lil B, was never in the White Chevrolet Impala. At the time of the incident, the occupants of the White Chevrolet Impala were an adult female and a fifteen-year-old male. Both occupants were frightened by the above incident and afraid for their lives at the time of the shooting. Neither occupant was physically injured by the gunfire received from the defendant. At the scene of the shooting, six spent casings from a handgun were located. Bullet holes were located in the vehicle, and three rounds were located in the vehicle.”

Freeman is charged with Attempted Murder, a Class B Felony. Freeman’s bail was set in the amount of $100,000 cash.

Criminal charges are merely an accusation and the defendant is innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
