Oskaloosa, Iowa – The position for Mayor of Oskaloosa is contested this year, and features incumbent Dave Krutzfeldt and the challenger Jeff Lorentzen.

Dave Krutzfeldt is the Chief Financial Officer for Interpower and also the Controller for Tassel Ridge Winery. Krutzfeldt was first elected to the Oskaloosa City Council in 1991 and has been the Mayor of Oskaloosa for the past eight years.

“I’ve been having just a tremendous experience holding the mayor position for the last eight years,” said Krutzfeldt. “From the perspective, so many projects are still happening, I want to stay involved in getting those projects completed.”

When it comes to his vision for Oskaloosa, Krutzfeldt sees the solution to the child care and adult recreation happening, solving the stormwater and wastewater issues, as well as continuing to tackle the street issues. “We’re finally starting to get ahead on some of the higher traveled streets, and now we’re going to have to reach back and start working some of the less traveled ones.”

Krutzfeldt added that addressing the housing needs of Oskaloosa is essential for growing the community.

When it comes to the early childhood development center and recreation center, Krutzfeldt says that he’s highly involved in the project, where he represents the city and is also a member of the YMCA board. “I’m also involved in what the administration of that is going to be like once it’s built.”

“And so, the number of meetings that the mayor attends, the number of speeches that are made, the number of times you go representing Oskaloosa to the Iowa DOT, or when we’re advocating for the city with the legislators. When we were in Washington D.C. talking to the senators and congressmen. Those are all things the mayor needs to be able to do and needs to be able to jump when the time comes,” added Krutzfeldt.

“There’s a whole fabric of changes that have been going on over these years, and it’s an intentional thing. That’s as mayor, and with the council, we’ve been looking at the things we believe really improve the quality of life for the citizens of Oskaloosa,” said Krutzfeldt. “I would point out that, and say, don’t you think that this is the right direction that Oskaloosa should be going, and wouldn’t it be a good idea to keep me in there, in the mayor’s position, to keep that going?”
