Sandra Klein, 74, of University Park, died Friday, October 6, 2017, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born August 31, 1943, the daughter of Gilbert and Lena (Kaluzne) Pefferman.

Following school, she was united in marriage to Larry Dean Sparks. To this union two children were born, Tim and Lisa. Sandra and Larry later divorced.

Sandra worked for several years at Younkers in Oskaloosa.

On December 20, 1973, she was united in marriage to Alvin Klein in Ottumwa. Following their marriage Sandra joined Alvin on the farm near Cedar. From that time on she stayed home to care for her family and home. Alvin died on April 2, 2008. Following Alvin’s death, Sandra moved into University Park to be closer to her family.

Sandra enjoyed watching NASCAR, cheering for the Hawkeyes basketball and football teams, and rooting for the Chicago Bears. She also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and other wildlife around her home. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She delighted in being around her family.

Her family includes her two children and their spouses, Tim (& Ruth) Sparks of University Park and Lisa (& Bruce) Lewis of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren: Nicole (& Andy) Stock, Holly (& Jesse) Greenhalgh, Sara Lewis, Kelli (& Charlie) Fleener, and Matt (& Jaimie) Sparks; 12 great grandchildren: Jett, Griffin, Jaxson, Rylan, Mattix, Luke, Chase, Kinsley, Stuart, Darcy, Oliver, and Piper; brothers and sisters in law, Joe Beal, Jr., Darrell (& Joyce) Klein, Luane Tyrrel; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Alvin; Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, George in infancy and Steve Pefferman; and a sister, Mary Beal; her father and mother in law, Elmer and Nellie Klein; and a brother in law, Jack Tyrrel.

Graveside funeral services and burial will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa with Pastor Dwayne Poe officiating.
A procession will form at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Tuesday morning at 10:40 for those wishing to attend the ceremony. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
As was Sandra’s wish no visitation is planned.
