Oskaloosa–William Penn University Athletics Director Nik Rule is pleased to announce the hiring of Abu Ibrahim as the Director of Sports Medicine.

Ibrahim comes to WPU from Wayne State College in Nebraska where he served more than two years as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. He was the trainer for the WSC football and women’s basketball teams his first two seasons.

“Abu brings a wealth of knowledge and an attitude that will help us develop a cutting-edge athletic training department for small-college athletics,” Rule said. “We were very deliberate in our national search and had several qualified candidates, but Abu stood out because of his knowledge of William Penn University and the fact that he has passion for our purpose.”

No stranger to Oskaloosa, Ibrahim was a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at William Penn from 2013-2015 while earning his Master’s of Business Leadership degree. While at WPU, he worked directly with six sports and also offered his services for the North Mahaska High School football team.

A 2013 graduate of Northeastern University in Massachusetts with a degree in Athletic Training, Ibrahim completed clinical rotations at Northeastern, Harvard University, Eastern Nazarene College, and at the high school and junior college levels while at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Complex. He also has three years of experience in outpatient physical therapy with Sports and Physical Therapy Associates in Massachusetts.

“I am very humbled and thankful for the confidence placed in me by Nik Rule, the hiring committee, and the entire William Penn Athletics community,” Ibrahim said. “I am very excited to return to William Penn in a new capacity and bring some positive change to benefit the Athletics Department as Director of Sports Medicine.”

“Becoming the head of a department has always been a goal of mine, so to be able to do it where I got my start is very special for me,” Ibrahim added. “It is my intention to provide the highest quality care to the student-athletes of the university, and with the continued support of our coaches, administrators, university, and the community at large, I have no doubt that we will continue to be a success and a model program.”

Ibrahim has been Athletic Training Board Certified since 2013 and is a member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association. He is currently a Licensed Athletic Trainer, and maintains a certification as a Red Cross/CPR AED instructor.
