Mike Berg, 69, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Grinnell and Montezuma passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017, from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease at Oskaloosa Care Center, Oskaloosa, Iowa. Michael Dennis Berg, son of Walter H. and Viva (Dean) Berg, was born February 22, 1948, in Cherokee, Iowa.

Mike was a 1966 graduate of Sioux Valley Community School in Peterson, Iowa and went on to study business administration at the University of Iowa where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1970.

Mike’s first job was in Grinnell as an accountant for GTE (General Telephone and Electric Company) which was later acquired by Iowa Telecom. Mike remained with the company working as a lobbyist and in regulatory affairs. He retired in 2006.

Mike married Jane A. (Zoch) Walter November 30, 1996, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in Grinnell and then at Lake Ponderosa.

Mike enjoyed fishing every day and especially looked forward to his annual fishing trip to Lake of the Woods. In his free time, Mike liked to golf, hunt, travel with friends and cheer for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Spending time with family and friends was also important to him. Mike was a member of the Montezuma First Presbyterian Church and the Montezuma Lions Club.

Mike is survived by his wife, Jane of Oskaloosa; his children: Christine Berg of Coralville, Iowa and Stephen (& Isabella) Berg of Palo Alto, California; a sister, Roxanne Grona of Gilbert, Arizona; father-in-law, Maynard Zoch of Cherokee, Iowa; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Nellie Berg; special niece, Suzanne Jordahl; brother-in-law, Frank Grona; mother-in-law, Bert Zoch; and sister-in-law, Janet Stilley.

Memorial services for Mike will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 31, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church in Montezuma, Iowa with Pastor George M. Salnave officiating.
Burial of his cremated remains will be at a later date in Oakland Cemetery in Peterson, Iowa.
A visitation will be held prior to the service at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Memorials can be made to Alzheimer’s Association of Iowa.
