Election Would Make Gregg Appointment Official

Iowa Lt. Governor Adam Gregg

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Iowa’s newest lieutenant governor was in Oskaloosa to help the community celebrate it’s Home Base Iowa designation. The question may have been who is Adam Gregg and how did he get into this position.

Gregg was the state’s public defender before being appointed as lieutenant governor by now Governor Kim Reynolds.

Gregg holds the title of lieutenant governor, but wouldn’t take over as governor if something were to happen to Reynolds. Jack Whitver, who was in the third in line of succession when Branstad resigned, would then be tasked with being governor.

Gregg is operating the office of lieutenant governor but doesn’t actually hold the office, and is tasked with the administrative and like ceremonies, much like that held in Oskaloosa.

Gregg, who is nearly 2 months on the job now, says, “It is still an incredible honor. It’s incredibly humbling.”

Gregg has also been touring storm damage with Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Mark Schouten. Gregg says, “It’s humbling to see the power of mother nature, but it’s humbling to see the resilience of Iowans. I’m constantly reminded of this incredible privilege and honor I have to serve in this role.”

Gregg appears to be Reynolds choice in a running mate for the 2018 gubernatorial election.

The unofficial campaign has announced over 1000 county chairs and more than 1 million in the bank for their run.

Senators Grassley and Ernst have also said they will serve as Co-Chairs for the Reynolds-Gregg campaign.

Gregg said that even though they haven’t officially announced they are running, “it’s pretty clear that we’re laying the groundwork.”

“We’re raising money and gathering supporters all across the state so that we will be in a strong position when we do decide to officially jump into the race,” says Gregg. “But we have signaled it’s our intention to run.”

If elected, Gregg will then officially become the Lt. Governor with all its rights and privileges, and responsibility.
