Erma Faye Smith, 93, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, July 21, 2017, at Northern Mahaska Specialty Care in Oskaloosa. She was born Monday, October 1, 1923, in Mahaska County, the daughter of Pearl and Mabel DeWitt Smith.

Erma graduated from Lacey High School with the Class of 1942.

Early on, Erma worked at the Burlington Ordinance Plant. She later worked at Continental Overall Factory for 10 years, Woolworth’s, several area restaurants and lastly at Rolscreen for 12 years until her retirement in 1988.

Erma enjoyed dancing, Bingo, going on bus trips, going to the band concerts on the square and attending ice cream socials and other social functions with her friends. She was a very active member of the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa. She was also a member of P.E.O. in Oskaloosa and O.K. Bunch.

She is survived by two nieces: Judy (& Larry) DeVore of Oskaloosa and Jane (& Daryl) Cox of Apache Junction, Arizona; two great nieces: Sharon Hart of Oskaloosa and Brenda (& Matt) Coffin of Monroe; two great nephews: Bob (& Deb) DeVore of Oskaloosa and Rusty Landers of Oskaloosa; and numerous great great nieces and nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lloyd Smith; two sisters, Esther Landers and Theda Smith; and a great great great great niece, Raelynn Hart.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at 1 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Charlie McMillian officiating.
Burial will be in Friends Cemetery in New Sharon.
Visitation will begin Monday, July 24, 2017, after 1 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the family present at the funeral chapel Monday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the children’s activity fund at Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa.
