Robert Gene Doty, 77, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. He was born March 15, 1940, in Mahaska County the son of Clyde and Minnie Garrett Doty, Sr.

Robert attended school in Mahaska County. He earned his A.A. degree from Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa. He also took classes to earn his C.D.L.

Robert was united in marriage to Doris Aspland. To this union two children were born, Ricky and Diane. Robert and Doris later divorced.
On April 4, 1992, he was united in marriage to Marie (Hoover) Worrall at the Evangelical Church in Oskaloosa.

Early on Bob worked at ACE Hardware selling appliances. He also drove a school bus for Oskaloosa Community Schools. Bob worked several years as a general contractor, his knowledge of plumbing, electrical, excavating, framing, and trimming made him a very skilled builder. He also worked as the groundskeeper at Nelson Pioneer Farm and Vennard College. Bob later worked for many years at Matthew Carpet in Oskaloosa. Last, he worked at Paslode in Oskaloosa and retired from there due to ill health.

Bob was a member of the Evangelical Church in Oskaloosa. He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, hunting, riding motorcycles and scooters, woodworking, and carpentry. He delighted in spending time with his family.

His family includes his wife, Marie Doty of Oskaloosa; two children: Ricky Doty of Oskaloosa and Diane (& George) Queck of Fontanelle, Iowa; three step children: Scott (& Maria) Miller of Pella, Teresa (& Mitch) Haegel of Ohio, and Travis Worrall of Eddyville; a daughter in law, Mary Doty of Oskaloosa; three granddaughters: Leasa (& Martin) Simmons, Kristin (& Sherwin) Plate, and Ashley (& Andrew) Rothe; seven great grandchildren; four brothers: John (& Susan) Doty of Oskaloosa, Kenny Doty of Oskaloosa, Clyde (& Nancy) Doty, Jr. of Oskaloosa, and Donald (& Bonnie) Doty of What Cheer; and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters: Viola Snook, Betty Snook, and Carol Mayfield.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 20, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
As was Bob’s wish his body has been cremated.
Burial of the urn will be in in the Henness Cemetery southwest of Oskaloosa.
Visitation will begin Wednesday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Wednesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
