A Little Snow And Some Giggles Happened In July

This little girl was all giggles as she played in the splash pad set up by the Oskaloosa Fire Department.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – There was snow of sorts on the square in Oskaloosa for the annual Christmas in July festivities.

The snow was courtesy of a snow machine from Joe Milledge and KIIC Radio, while the giant lawn games from Mahaska Drug kept everyone playing.

The Oskaloosa Fire Department placed a splash pad on the closed street in front of the courthouse, and children and adults alike enjoyed the refreshing blast of cool water.

Snow wasn’t the only attraction, as was the bags tournament sponsored by No Coast Beer Co.  Meanwhile, Mahaska donated bottles of TYR and water that were sold for $1 to raise money for the downtown like show.

Cathy Stahl was one of the event organizers and she thanked all of the volunteers and sponsors who helped to make the day possible. “The community really came together. That is what made it a huge success.”

Stahl thanked the City of Oskaloosa for their cooperation for helping make the day special. “Michael Schrock was really instrumental in helping us.”

“There’s just so many volunteers, it’s really hard to name them all,” added Stahl. “Our new Main Street Director Emily Brown, she did an incredible job.”

Brown, who has been in the Main Street position for less than two weeks, agreed that Christmas in July was awesome this year. “One of my favorite things about working on community events is seeing so many people come out and have fun, which was definitely the case with this event.”

“It was a pretty crazy thing for me to step into, but Main Street is fortunate to have so many awesome committee members, staff, and volunteers. They have put in so much hard work and have been the driving force behind making this event a success. I think Christmas in July is a great thing for our community and look forward to seeing it grow in the years to come,” added Brown.
