MILDRED MAY MARTIN
December 8, 1924 – June 18, 2017
Oskaloosa, Iowa | Age 92

Mildred Martin, 92, of Oskaloosa passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa. Mildred May Martin, daughter of Lloyd and Nadine (Alderman) McCreery, was born, December 8, 1924, in Hedrick, Iowa.

Millie attended schools in the “Crackers Neck” area near Fremont. After her education, she met Willard Martin and the two were married, March 14, 1943. Millie and Willard were the parents of two children, Janet and Charlie.

The family lived in Chicago for a few years, while Willard worked for a Ford garage. They later moved back to Oskaloosa and together, they opened a garage in Cedar. Millie assisted Willard with the book-work and helped him obtaining necessary parts. She later worked as a nursing aid in Oskaloosa. Her true passion was home care, and Millie started her own child care business which she successfully ran until her retirement in 1997.

Millie loved to garden and tend to her flowers. She enjoyed word searches, Hawkeye football and basketball and the Chicago Cubs. Most of all she enjoyed visits from her family and all of her grandchildren.

Mildred’s family includes her son, Charlie Martin of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Millie had many special friends that were just as close as family: Jeff & Ruthi Rogers and their children, Cassidy and Harrison, and Cassidy’s daughter Kaci; Tom & Madonna Bowie and their son Aaron; Del & Marilyn Johnson and their sons: Ryan, Aaron and Nathan; Tod & Kelly Spears and their sons: Trevor and Colin; and many other dear friends.

In addition to her husband, Willard, Mildred was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Martin Walker; and three sisters: Opal Martin, Helen Briggs, and Margret Edwards.

Mildred was always a giving person. She has decided to donate her body to the University of Iowa for medical research.

Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp has been entrusted with her arrangements. Memories and condolences may be sent to her family by visiting to online guestbook at gvlfuneralchapel.com.
