(Lester) Wayne Hols, 86, of rural Eddyville, died Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa. Wayne was born December 20, 1930, in rural Mahaska County, the son of Jacob and Helen Chilcote Hols.

Wayne graduated from Eddyville High School with the class of 1949.

Following graduation Wayne moved to northern Iowa and worked as a tree trimmer. He later enlisted in the United States Army and served stateside and overseas during the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to the Eddyville area.

On October 18, 1953, he was united in marriage to Mary Vander Linden at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. To this union five children were born, Carl, Terry, Christine, Marcia, and Joanna. Wayne and Mary later divorced.

Wayne farmed in many areas throughout his farming career including, Oskaloosa, Ottumwa, Montezuma, and Searsboro. On December 11, 1981, he was united in marriage to Alice Hunter in Memphis, Missouri. The two of them moved to their current farm near Eddyville in 1985. In addition to farming, Wayne was an over the road truck driver for Melton Transportation and later for Barr-Nunn Transportation. He saw most of the lower 48 states in his 14 plus years driving.

Wayne enjoyed fishing and squirrel hunting. He was a member of the American Legion for nearly 30 years.

His family includes his wife of over 35 years, Alice Hols of rural Eddyville; two sons: Carl Hols of Tama and Terry Hols of League City, Texas; three daughters: Christine (& Mike) Fiscus of Shady Cove, Oregon, Marcia (& Steve) Roozeboom of Oskaloosa, and Joanna (& Brad) Van Baale of Monroe; four step sons: Mark (& Sherrie) Hunter of Jacksonville, Missouri, Matthew (& Kathy) Hunter of Denver, Missouri, Myron Hunter of Martinsville, Missouri, and Mitchell (& Kathleen) Hunter of Meeker, Oklahoma; a step daughter, Marla (& Randall) Cowell of Smithville, Missouri; 24 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; a sister, Linda Huff of Tipton; and many nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Winona Phillips.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa.
Graveside Military Honors will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W.
Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery at Eddyville. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Tuesday after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Tuesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
