Shriners Team Up To Raise Money And Awareness
Oskaloosa, Iowa – A drive down A Avenue on Saturday, just inside the Mahaska Drug parking lot sat the jail cell used by the Mahaska Shriners to help raise money.
That money finds its way to help local kids get to a Shriners hospital in the form of transportation needs. Funds are also made available to help the 22 Shriners hospitals remain free for the youth and the families they serve. Those hospitals closest to Oskaloosa include: Minneapolis, Chicago and St. Louis. “All of that is funded through the Shriners efforts,” says Tim Murry, President of Mahaska County Shriners.
On Saturday, the Oskaloosa Fire Department, Oskaloosa Police Department and the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office joined with the Shriners to promote a kids’ safety day.
Young people got tips about safety, while getting to try on fire helmets, get their picture taken in a police car and more.
