A Dog’s Day At The Bark Park

The photo booth gave pet owners the chance to snap a memory of the day.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – What started as a capstone project became reality in July of 2015, as the Oskaloosa Dog Park officially opened.

Since that time, the committee that oversees the park has worked with partners to maintain and improve the facility. Some of those improvements include water fountains for not only humans, but for the 4-legged kind, as well.

On Sunday, May 7th, the group once again gathered to enjoy the warm spring sun, and the company of fellow dog owners.

Sarah Hockey-Lanphier explained that the day was really designed to help keep the facility in the forefront of people’s minds.

The group enjoys the dog splash event as the summer comes to an end, but also enjoy events in the fall and around the holidays.

The spring event allowed everyone to once again gather, and dogs and their humans could catch up after thawing out from the winter cold.

“It’s kind of a mutt day instead of May Day,” joked RD Keep. It was Keep’s capstone project that was the starting point for the dog park.

Feedback is something the group enjoys. Folks alert the group about issues at the park, or tell them they are happy to see the facility busy. “They see it as an amenity that they and their dogs can enjoy,” said Keep.

Keep, who doesn’t own a dog, other than a 60 year old stuffed one that was given to him by his grandparents the year he was born.

The 2017 version of the dog splash is planned to take place around the end of August, says Lanphier.

The group says they are always looking for new members to join them, and you can learn more by visiting them on their Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/oskaloosadogpark/
