Irma grew up and helped her parents on the farm. She graduated from Montezuma High School with the class of 1946. Irma attended the American School of Beauty Culture in Des Moines after her high school graduation.

After dating a young Navy veteran for a year and a half, she and Ronald C. Arnaman were married. They began their life together on a farm north of Montezuma. Irma was a wonderful wife and mother and enjoyed her beauty work for 66 years, gardening, church activities and raising their three daughters.

Irma and Ron loved to travel both in the states and abroad including England, Africa and Hawaii, went on bus tours, enjoyed square dancing, playing cards and all activities that their children and grandchildren were involved in. They were thrilled to have five grandsons and one granddaughter and later six great grandchildren.

Irma was a wonderful cook and made many batches of beef and noodles and many pies for her church potlucks as well as family dinners. Her homemade angel food cake was requested by many family and friends. She loved to play cards with her country club and Seeland Park friends, and the family considered her a real card shark.

Irma spent two winters in Texas with her niece Kay and Jerry Winchell, two very important people in her life. And lastly, her farm legacy will remain for years to come. Her life was happy and full and her loss is felt by many. She was a member of the Grinnell Presbyterian Church, served as an Elder and was on the Buildings and Maintenance committee.
