Annual Chalk the Walk Fundraiser to be Hosted at Oskaloosa Downtown Square

(OSKALOOSA, Iowa) – Students in the William Penn University Media Club are encouraging Oskaloosa residents to color the town square for the annual sidewalk chalk fundraiser held each year. The event will be Saturday, April 22 from 12 – 2 p.m. at the Oskaloosa Downtown Square. The United Way of Mahaska County and FACE (Fine Arts and Culture Events) is teaming up with students in the Media Club during this event to raise money for Operation Backpack.

“Previously, Chalk the Walk took place at the elementary school but organizers moved the event to the town square to encourage greater visibility of the fundraiser,” said William Penn University Digital Communication Graduate Assistant, Lauren Abbas.

Participants may purchase sidewalk squares for ten dollars to draw on and are encouraged to bring their own chalk. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the United Way of Mahaska County to support Operation Backpack, which provides children with essential school supplies needed to help them excel in their education.

If there is inclement weather, the event will be moved to Saturday, May 13 at the same time and place. Community members of all ages are encouraged to make memories with friends and loved ones while giving back to the community as part of this yearly event.
